| DOES COLOR MATTER? |
|
One of the concerns we hear frequently is of colored drainage from the nose. There is frequently a concern for a possible sinus infection as well. As it turns out, color doesn’t really matter when it comes to drainage. Studies have shown that, even for a run-of-the-mill cold, nasal drainage is clear as it begins, then turns yellow or green around the third day. The drainage remains colored for 3-5 days, then will turn clear again before going away. A better indicator of a sinus infection is the length of time the drainage has been present. If your child has been ill with a runny or stopped up nose for 10-14 days, he or she has about an 80% chance of having a sinus infection. Please call our office to schedule an appointment if you think your child may have a sinus infection, or if you have any other concerns.
